Peer Pleasure 2: Red76, Temporary Services and The Visible Collective
Curated by Berin Golonu
Apr 7—Jul 2, 2006
Yerba Buena Center for the Arts
Peer Pleasure 2 showcases projects by artist groups working in the US that reflect an interest in forging community networks to distribute art, information and ideas. Interactive projects by Red76 (Portland), Temporary Services (Chicago), and Visible Collective (New York) address a range of social and political issues, from life in the prison system, to the misrepresentation of American Muslims in the media post-9-11. Over the course of the exhibition, YBCA’s galleries will be animated with interactive displays, impromptu lectures, and unique public events organized by each collective.
Red76 projects are conceived, most often, by Sam Gould, and fleshed out by a group of like-minded artists and thinkers including Matthew Yake, Khris Soden, Paige Saez, Jen Rhoades, Laura Baldwin, and others.
Temporary Services is Brett Bloom, Marc Fischer, and Salem Collo-Julin.
Visible Collective is directed by Naeem Mohaiemen. A rotating group of members include Anandaroop Roy, Jeeyun Ha, Vivek Bald, Donna Golden, Shahed Amanullah, JT Nimoy, Aziz Huq, Anjali Malhotra, Sarah Olson and Kristofer Dan-Bergman. A full list of collective members and allies can be found on the website of their project Disappeared in America.
